This is a praying mantis waiting on top of a French marigold. Praying mantises or mantids are among the list of common beneficial insects and is also overrated. They don't just eat pests, they may also eat other beneficial insects.About marigolds, it is said that French marigolds are the most potent pest control among the different varieties of marigolds. I've also read and observed that they do not really repel insects, they even attract them. Maybe that's why this mantis picked this spot. Too bad she's not that well camouflaged. :)
